　　保罗.西蒙（Paul Simon)1941年10月13日出生于美国新泽西洲纽沃克，西蒙自幼热爱音乐，12岁时开始自己学弹吉他。6年级时他结识了同学阿特.加丰凯尔（Art Garfunkel）并组成了一个二重唱组。1964年赴英度假期间，西蒙结识了一些社会活动家，他的创作演唱兴趣开始由流行歌曲转向民谣抗议运动。1968年他们为著名的电影《毕业生》配乐，这才使西蒙和加丰凯尔成为大明星，歌曲“鲁滨逊太太”、“寂静之声”和“斯卡波罗集市”广为流传，深入人心。第一次听《斯卡波罗集市》时，保罗那略有些古怪但却别具一格的嗓音和加丰凯尔男天使般的歌声让我仿佛在钢筋水泥丛林中找到了两只夜莺，而二人的和声更是有近乎无瑕之感。很难想象，男声也可以达到这样绝对不逊于女声的优美音色。保罗·西蒙和加丰凯尔用喉音包括假声，沉思性地演唱。与其说演唱，不如说在回忆。他们努力回忆一件旧事。这时，芫荽、鼠尾草、迷迭香和百里香不断闪现。旧事愈忆愈远，心中只剩下花草的气息，环绕身旁。
　　1970年，两位歌手对音乐的理解出现了分歧，最终导致分道扬镳。保罗.西蒙自此成为了一名风格多变的独唱歌手。在七十年代乐队和平解散后，西蒙仍有有大量优秀的作品涌现，记得有一首多年后仍旧叫人心动（Still Crazy After All These Years），写一名男子在窗口看见自己多年以前的恋人，仍旧心潮澎湃的情景，很是动人。
