　　吉卜森也因此取得了巨大声誉，他创办了他自己的制片公司LCON Productions。在拍摄三部《致命武器》的同时，他还参加拍摄了不少的影片。如《德奎拉日出》。这其中属于他的制片公司出品的就有《哈姆雷特》和《永远年轻》（《Forever Young》1992）。在主演了大量影片，并作过制片人之后，吉卜森开始准备做一个导演。“演而优则导”在影视界很常见，克林特·伊斯特伍德、凯文·科斯特纳、朱迪·福斯特都在这方面取得了巨大成功，吉卜森对此已是早有准备，作为演员他有丰富的表演经验，作为制片人他也熟悉幕后工作，而且与三个著名导演的紧密合作，互相切磋也使他对导演的工作相当熟悉了解，他再从事导演工作可以说是轻车熟路，事半功倍。1993年他执导了影片《无脸人》（《The Man Without Face》），讲述了一个古代传奇故事，并且亲自主演；1994年他又主演了影片《赌侠马华利》（《MAVERICK》）饰演了一个西部枪手、赌徒的形象。在积累了大量经验后，吉卜森投入全部精力制作、导演并主演了《勇敢的心》。这是一部充满了激情、政治、浪漫、道德的古装史诗巨片，对任何一个导演来说都是一个空前的挑战和考验。吉卜森表现出非凡的能力，成功地推出了这样一部具有深刻民族主义和政治内涵的影片，他当之无愧被称为世界巨星。
