during是在……期间的意思，它比in更强调过程
爱因斯坦在战争中经历了很多，这句话强调经历了很多这个动作在战争期间一直持续，所以用during

during一般是用来说时间的.
例如 在……期间
We go swimming every day during the summer.
整个夏天我们每天都去游泳。
They lived abroad during the war.
战争期间他们一直在国外。
例如 在……的时候
He died during the night.
他是在夜里去世的。

in 的用法相对就过了
例如 在……里面
There are nobody in the house.
屋里没人。
Swim in the sea.
在海里游泳。
……
它也可以表示：在……期间 其实和in没有多大的区别。
We had a lot of snoe in January.(月份)
例如我们这里一月份多会下雪。

其实学习英语有的时候的确没有为什么，只是习惯问题，因此就要就知识的积累，还有语感也很重要。熟能生巧。就好比这两个次其实几乎没什么区别，那就要注意多记词组了。

表示时间的时候in与during是有不同的意思。
in表示在。。。。。以后，如：in 3 days 即是说3天后的那天；
during表示在。。。。。期间，如：during 3 days 是讲这3天的时间内。
