Whenever a piece of equipment is repaired or serviced,the person responsible for office equipment generally notes down the details in a logbook.This helps the organisation know that the equipment is being well looked after.Let’s now look at some of the simple types of maintenance that you may be asked to undertake.

Changing toner

Installing toner cartridges on laser printers varies by brand and model.These general instructions should be used to supplement or simplidy the information in your printer manual.

1. Turn off the printer.
2. Open cover or front of printer.(You should be ale to do this easily,without tools.)
3. Remove the existing toner cartridge y pulling its handle or top.Carefully lift it out or up toward you.
4. Save the existing toner cartridge for recycling or refilling.
5. Remove the new toner cartridge from its plastic bag.Use scissors if necessary.
6. Gently shake cartridge from side to side.
7. Remove tape from bottom of cartridge.
8. Put new cartridge in printer.You might need to push,but you shouldn’t need to force it.
9. Close the printer cover.
10. Turn on printer.
11. Print a test page. If toner smears,repeat test page until it prints cleanly.

Clearing Printer James
All printers have 3 handling areas:
1. Input Tray Area
2. Top Cover Area
3. Output Area

A jam can occur in any of these 3 areas.If the printer is reporting a paper jam,shutdown the printer and be sure to check all three areas for the problem page.To clear the jam ,you just have to follow the paper’s path through the printer.
