port - a place on a waterway with facilities for loading and unloading ships.
港口-水上具有可供船只装卸货物的设施的地方
harbor - a sheltered part of a body of water deep enough to provide anchorage for ships.
海港，港口一块有足够深度为船只提供安全停泊口岸的水域
harbor专指海港，其他江河湖泊的港口用port比较合适。但具体世界某些著名港口还是有自己的习惯用法。
harbour (AmE harbor)
天然的或者人工的港口，着重指防波堤可挡风浪及有停泊处可供船只停靠的地方。 如：
My eyes fell on a boat, drawn into a natural harbour. 我看见一条小船驶进了一个天然港。
port
常指人工建造，为商船装卸货物用的港口。 如：
At noon the ship entered the port. 中午那艘船进了港
另：harbour用在专有名词后（如: Bullock Harbour）
port 用在专有名词前（如：Port Authur）
harbor特指海港,且只有这个意思
port 指各种港口,而且还有, 舱门, 左舷, 避风港, 枪眼以及端口的意思.
前者范围比较大
