简介：
小学生典道和同伴们争论起一个有关烟花的问题。为了解决这个困惑，他们打算趁夏季烟花表演的机会到燃放烟花的灯塔上看个究竟。同时，他们的同学少女奈砂因为父母离异而决定离家出走。于是他们在烟花表演的夜晚，一起爬山去那个灯塔。而遗憾的是，当这些少年最终到达灯塔的时候，烟花表演却结束了。
少男少女间朦胧的感情，遗憾带来的感伤，《烟花》简直可以称为《情书》的雏形。在《烟花》这部电视短片中，岩井俊二摆脱了传统儿童影视作品中的那种做作的臆断，把人们少年时代的经历和情感刻画得真挚自然。他也因为此片的出色表现，夺得了当年日本电影导演协会的年度新人奖。
