In consideration of your signing a clean Bill of Lading for the under-mentioned cargo: 2000 tons of rice in bags shipped by M.V. “Kiu Kiang” from Bombay to Abadan in such a condition as noted on the Mate’s Receipt at the time of shipment that thirty two bags of rice were slightly water-stained, we and/or our principals hereby guarantee to hold you or any of you and/or agents perfectly free from any consequences that may arise from your omission of the remarks in the Bill of Lading.

In case you find yourselves in the above mentioned position, you or any of you and/or agents are authorized to disclose this Letter of Indemnity to the underwriters concerned, and that will entirely relieve you or any of you from any responsibility.

非常感谢你们及时为××通讯社×小姐在本楼六层提供一套住房。多谢你们的关照，×小姐将于六月一日搬进来。
但是有个严肃的问题，这个问题我认为很容易解决。这就是窗上的铁栅栏问题。我们理解安装这些栅栏的原因。但是×小姐没有孩子，所以铁栅栏就不需要了。
还有其他两个原因：第一，也是最重要的，万一遇到火灾，栅栏就会成为障碍，×小姐将不能在火灾时逃到楼顶安全的地方。另一原因是：它给人以牢房的印象。由于她将有重要的客人，如大使公使等前来共进午餐和晚餐，我想你们会同意，这种印象是有损中国的形象的。
