During the height of his reign as WBO light heavyweight champion, Michael Moorer told an interviewer "I crave violence." He loved watching slasher movies and wondered what it would be like to cave in an opponent’s cheekbone. Moorer spoke in an unsettlingly quiet voice but the intensity behind his words was unmistakable – and downright chilling.

Moorer’s taste for combat was sorely tested in his heavyweight brawl with "Smokin’" Bert Cooper May 15, 1992 at the Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City. The bout was for the vacant WBO heavyweight title and the match between top-rated Moorer and second-ranked Cooper was one that featured two men whose careers were going in different directions.
