An ideal life in Shekou

FILIPINO Benny S. Respecia has lived in Shekou for more than seven years working as the operations manager for a Shenzhen-based international oil company headquartered in Oman.

“I enjoy the years I have spent here. Shekou is a nice, neat and quiet place where there is always a window for business opportunity and it’s easy to meet new friends,” he said.

“I know almost everybody living here as it is a small place but there are quite bars and restaurants, which are good and inexpensive.”

Respecia likes hot and spicy food and is a patron of restaurants serving Sichuan or Hunan cuisines.

He was allowed to use a company car last year. “I find the Shenzhen infrastructure is good. The road network is good. It takes me less than 20 minutes to drive from Shekou to downtown Shenzhen,” he said.

He was instrumental in establishing the Shekou Filipino Community in 2000 and has been the community president for the past four years. The community organizes regular activities such as parties, celebrations and sports.
