The word “globalization” began to appear in the New York Times and Washington Post since 1980. After flatting its way through the 1980s and early ’90s, "globalization"--as a word, at least--took off in a near-vertical ascent in the late 1990s. (1)
The global climate at the end of the twentieth century has been marked by a move toward globalization. From almost everywhere came a sense of the power of globalization, whether driven by technology, economics or politics.
We were standing on the shore where a big wave is coming. For the industrialized and the developing nations of the world, this influence of global wave has both upside and downside. The upside explains why and how the move toward globalization brought us opportunities, and the downside describes the newest challenges to modern politicians, economists, environmentalists, and sociologists.
